This June 21, 2026, the whole world is celebrating International Yoga Day around the theme: “Yoga for healthy aging”. In Burkina Faso, the event was celebrated by hundreds of people around the Ambassador of India to Burkina Om Prakash Meena.

Present at the ceremony were diplomatic corps, actors from the Burkinabe government including the minister in charge of sports Annick PIKBOUGOUM/ZINGUEOUATTARA, yoga instructors in Burkina Faso and sports enthusiasts. The ceremony organized in the esplanade of the Ouaga 2000 sports center was a great success.

It was also an opportunity for the two countries (India and Burkina Faso) to strengthen their centuries-old ties through a sporting activity that brings together the two communities.

Ambassador O.P. Meena reaffirmed that his country will support and strengthen the efforts of the practice of Yoga in Burkina Faso for social well-being. The Indian diplomat announced that ten (10) Yoga instructors will already fly to India from June 23, 2026 for a capacity-building stay. A gesture warmly appreciated by the Minister in charge of sports.

As a reminder, Yoga is a sporting discipline of Indian origin. It has the particularity of working on the physical, mental and spirit at the same time. Although it is a historical discipline, it was under Prime Minister Narendra Modi that its practice was spread to the world.
