India: A clear improvement in living conditions according to a national survey

The 6th National Family Health Survey (NFHS) in India published on May 29, 2026 shows that Indian families are doing well. The data from this survey were made public on July 2, 2026 by the Indian Embassy in Burkina Faso Om Prakash Meena and his colleagues during a debriefing with the media.

According to the survey data, India achieves an overall electricity access rate of 98.3%; 95.5% access to drinking water and health insurance coverage of 60.2%. Results which show almost universal electrification of the country.

Women’s empowerment, such an important sector, has seen great improvement. 89% of women participate in household decisions, 89% have and use a bank account. Internet use reached 64.3% among women.

In India, the proportion of women aged 20-24 married before the legal age of 18 fell from 47.7% in 2025-2026 to 20.1% in 2023-2024. Which proves that the demographic transition has been consolidated.

Maternal and child health indicators are also green. More than 90% of births were carried out in a health establishment, 91% of births attended by health personnel.

Also, we note that the digital divide has been significantly reduced, indicators of gender-based violence have improved.

All these positive transformations have been accelerated under the governance of the current Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Although the survey results are very satisfactory, the long-term trends are even more promising.

The India-Burkina collaboration

Remember that relations between the two countries are perfect. India’s intervention in Burkina Faso is much more in the health sector. The country of Narendra Modi also invites Burkina Faso to carry out similar surveys in order to be able to follow its socio-demographic evolution.

Last night’s meeting was also an opportunity for India to open up to another investment sector in Burkina Faso. It is now present in the mining industry sector with the launch of the company Mesto 247 Burkina, a subsidiary of Mesto Africa whose major partner is the Indian company Mesto Corporation and DECO India. Mesto Africa will be present in the 03 AES countries.
